Tendon Injuries and Tendonitis

Tendonitis (tendinitis) is the inflammation or irritation of a tendon that makes it swell. Tendons are strands of connective tissue between muscles and bones that help you move. This condition usually happens after a repetitive strain or overuse injury.

Tendons in the hand and wrist connect muscles to bones and are essential for movement. Injuries may occur from lacerations, overuse, or inflammatory conditions like tendonitis.

Mild cases of tendonitis may improve with rest, anti-inflammatory medications, splinting, and physical therapy. Complete tendon injuries often require surgical repair to restore function.

Postoperative recovery involves a careful balance of protection and gradual rehabilitation. Hand therapy is essential for regaining strength, flexibility, and coordination.
