Fracture Fixation

Fracture fixation stabilizes extremely misaligned broken bones by “re-setting,” or “reduction,” by using splints, casts, and implants.

Fractures of the hand and wrist can result from trauma, falls, or direct impact. Symptoms include pain, swelling, deformity, and limited range of motion. Accurate diagnosis is confirmed through physical exam and imaging.

Treatment depends on the type and location of the fracture. Simple fractures may be managed with splinting or casting, while displaced or unstable fractures often require surgical fixation using pins, screws, or plates.

Fracture fixation restores bone alignment and stability, allowing for optimal healing and function. Recovery typically involves a period of immobilization followed by hand therapy to regain strength and mobility.
