Arthritis of the hand causes pain and swelling, stiffness and deformity. Treatments include medications, braces/splints, healthy life choices and surgery.
Arthritis in the hand or wrist can lead to chronic pain, stiffness, swelling, and reduced range of motion. Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are the most common types affecting these joints.
Initial treatment includes anti-inflammatory medications, bracing, activity modification, and steroid injections. When conservative treatments fail, surgical options such as joint fusion or joint replacement may be considered.
Surgical intervention aims to relieve pain and improve function. Recovery may vary by procedure but often includes hand therapy to restore strength and motion.
